Water injection for charge cooling

Downsizing direct injection gasoline engines at elevated power density involves several challenges of engine design. Recently water injection has been re-discovered to have a high potential to deliver a feasible solution between several trade-offs. Water injection also leads to charge cooling allowing for higher compression ratios.
